LUCKNOW: An array of more than 15 electric vehicles will replace US President Donal Trump’s cavalcade of more than 35 vehicles to ferry him to the Taj Mahal. The Supreme Court order restricts fuel-run vehicles to enter a range of 500 m of the monument.

These electric vehicles will be a mix of battery-run golf carts and electric buses. Some carts have been bought as recently as in January by the local administration.

The switch will be made at the Oberoi Amarvilas Hotel that is barely 650 m away from the east gate of the Taj. The President’s fleet will deboard at the hotel and take the alternate arrangement from there, Agra district magistrate Prabhu N Singh told ET. Prohibiting the President’s bullet proof ‘Beast’ vehicle from taking him to the Taj was emerging to be a key dampener. In the past, former US president Barack Obama had cancelled his trip at the last minute due to this limitation.

Trump, accompanied by wife Melania, daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner along with the US delegation, is expected to arrive at Agra’s Kheria airport around 4.45 pm and will be received by the UP CM Yogi Adityanath as well as the governor Anandiben Patel.
