Over 13,000 foreigners identified in five years in Assam

The highest number of 2,568 foreigners were declared in Dibrugarh district and the largest number of 6875 cases were disposed of in Sonitpur.

Over 13,000 foreigners identified in five years in Assam
GUWAHATI: Over 13,000 persons were declared as foreigners in Assam by the Foreigners Tribunals in the last five years, Agriculture Minister Rockybul Hussain today informed the state Assembly.

A total of 60,011 cases were also disposed of by the Tribunal during the period from June 2010 to May 2015, Hussain said on behalf of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in reply to a question of Ali Hossain (AIUDF) in the House.

The highest number of 2,568 foreigners were declared in Dibrugarh district and the largest number of 6875 cases were disposed of in Sonitpur district, he said.

With the constitution of 64 new Foreigners Tribunals in the state, the minister said 100 Tribunals were operating in the state.
