Over 100 villages in Rakesh Tikait’s district back agitation

There are a lot of apprehensions about contract farming and this has led to unity among farmers over the new laws. But there is a small section of farmers that is speaking in favour of the laws in spite of mass mobilisation against them.

Mansoorpur (Muzaffarnagar): The farmers’ agitation against the three central farm laws is receiving overwhelming support from more than 100 villages around DSM Sugar Mill at Mansoorpur in Muzaffarnagar, the native district of Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait who is leading the protest at the Ghazipur border.

There are a lot of apprehensions about contract farming and this has led to unity among farmers over the new laws. But there is a small section of farmers that is speaking in favour of the laws in spite of mass mobilisation against them. “My village is in full support of the farmers’ protest. We also donated money for the continuation of the protest at the Ghazipur border. Several villagers have also gone there,” Mohanveer, a native of Purbaliyan village, told ET at the gate of the sugar factory. He said the government must withdraw the laws which are against them.

Irshad, a young farmer of Ganidurbalpur village, said: “In my village, everyone is supporting the farmers’ agitation,” he said.
