Over 1.3 lakh fowl culled in Manipur
Over 1.37 lakh domestic fowl were culled and buried at various places in Imphal East and Imphal West districts of Manipur since the outbreak of birdflu was confirmed on July 25, official sources said on Monday.
There was no report of the spread of the disease among the people and medical checks are being conducted by the state health department to prevent any such infection.
Culling of chicks and ducks were being carried out by the Rapid Response Team (RRT) of the state veterinary department within a range of five km from Chingmeirong area, near here, where the first case of avian influenza H5N1 was reported, the sources said.
Reports had been received from Tamenglong, Ukhrul and Churachandpur districts about the death of fowl due to mysterious disease. It was, however, confirmed that there was no outbreak of avian influenza in those districts, the sources added.
