Orissa cops on Maoists' trail, kill 20

Twenty Maoists were gunned down during a combing operation by security forces in the border areas of Nayagarh, Ganjam and Kandhamal districts of Orissa on Sunday.

BHUBANESWAR: Twenty Maoists were gunned down during a combing operation by security forces in the border areas of Nayagarh, Ganjam and Kandhamal districts of Orissa on Sunday. Fierce gun battles between security personnel and Maoists rebels have been going on since Saturday in several areas.

Three jawans of the special operation group were also killed in the operation being conducted since Saturday after the Maoists attacked police establishments in Nayagarh on Friday night, state home secretary TK Mishra said.

The guerrillas ��� who killed 14 police personnel on late Friday night ��� are holed up in caves of Gasama hill near Gallery in Ganjam district and Tikabali forest in Kandhamal district. ���

Some women Maoists were also among the 20 ultras killed in the exchange of fire.
