Order banning free bus rides for Emergency prisoners stayed

The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad HC has stayed an order prohibiting free travel of political prisoners taken during the Emergency in 1975 aboard buses belonging to Uttar Pradesh State Roadways Transport Corporation.

LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court today stayed an order prohibiting free travel of Loktantra Rakshak Senani (political prisoners taken during the Emergency in 1975) aboard buses belonging to Uttar Pradesh State Roadways Transport Corporation.

A division bench comprising Justice Pradeep Kant and Justice Abhinav Upadhyay passed this order on two writ petitions filed by Loktantra Senani Kalyan Samiti which challenged the administrative order of Managing Director, UPSRTC, dated July 1 withdrawing the facility.

The facility was extended to the Senani during the tenure of the last state government.
