Oppositon meets President Pranab Mukherji over demonetisation

NEW DELHI: Leaders of the oppositon parties met President Pranab Mukherji today at Rashtrapati Bhavan to lodge their protest against the uncertainty prevailing after the government's demonetisation move.

"We told the President that we wanted a discussion on demonitisation in Parliament, on problems faced by farmers and small traders," said Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of the largest opposition party Congress, after the metting with President Mukherjee.

Kharge added, "The government failed completely in running the proceedings in the Parliament", calling the President as "protector of the constitution".

Though four opposition parties namely BSP, NCP, Left, SP skipped the meet. Sitaram Yechury said, "humne pehle hi kaha tha president isme karenge bhi kya?, on left skipping the meet.
