President Droupadi Murmu to meet INDIA bloc leaders at 8 pm over EC row

Leaders of the INDIA bloc are scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu at 8 p.m. on Friday to press their demand for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

Sources indicated that the President's office confirmed the evening appointment earlier in the morning.

A ten-member delegation, expected to include Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and TMC Chairperson Mamata Banerjee, will join the meeting.

The visit comes after opposition MPs staged three consecutive days of protests in the national capital seeking Gyanesh Kumar's resignation over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. INDIA bloc MPs, who were stopped by police during marches towards the Election Commission's office earlier this week, shifted their protest to Raj Ghat on Thursday. The Opposition has sought the President's intervention in the matter.
