Launching a scathing attack against the opposition parties over opposing the Bill to amend the Waqf Act, 1995, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Gulam Ali Khatan said that Waqf property has been misused by the opposition while being in power for 70 years and Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants transparency to stop any future loot.

"The opposition while being in power for 70 years have misused the Waqf property and hadn't used it for the welfare of the minorities. Individual people have looted and encroached on it. PM Narendra Modi wants transparency in it..." said BJP MP Gulam Ali Khan.

Meanwhile, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah called the NDA government against the minorities. "It shows the NDA government is against the minorities. They are not for secularism or social justice. We have been telling people of the country that they are communal parties. They are fascist and that's why they are doing this, " the CM said.

NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule said, "We will object to it. The bill should be sent to the standing committee for more recommendations or a joint parliamentary committee should be made."

NCP-SCP MP Fauzia Khan said that our party's stand is that consultation should have been done with various stakeholders. Adding to that, she said, "A bill which will totally collapse Waqf Board. It is an unjust bill for the Muslim community."

Deputy Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi stated, "Different parties have opposed the introduction of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in the House. When it will be brought into the business, we will clear our stand on why we are opposing the bill."

Notably, apart from introducing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, Kiren Rijiju will also introduce The Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill, 2024 which seeks to repeal the Mussalman Wakf Act, 1923.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, Waqf Act provides for the renaming of the Waqf Act, 1995, as the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act, 1995. It seeks to clearly define "waqf" as waqf by any person practising Islam for at least five years and having ownership of such property and ensure that the creation of Waqf-alal-aulad does not lead to the denial of inheritance rights to women.
