Opposition wanted discussion on devastating flood as soon as the house assembled however Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami said that the discussion will take place after the question hour. Congress and AIUDF being dissatisfied felt the house showing placards.
Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) MLA Brindaban Goswami suggested that a resolution must be adopted so that the Centre can be approached for declaring flood and erosion problem of Assam as a national calamity.
AIUDF legislator Aminul Islam said “The floods and erosion problems in Assam are not taken as seriously by the Central government as they consider the floods problems of Gujarat and Kerala. If the Centre considers the resources of Assam as national resource, why cannot the problems of Assam is considered as national problem too?”.

A total of 2,078 number of villages in 61 revenue circles of 17 number of Districts which included Dhemaji, Darrang, Baksa, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Morigaon, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat and Cachar are witnessing flooding.
Presently around 27, 15, 184 people remain affected by floods.
