Opposition unity impossible without a strong Congress, says Jairam Ramesh
At a time when some opposition leaders talk about possible tie ups ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, former union minister Jairam Ramesh on Saturday claimed opposition unity is impossible without a strong Congress.

"If opposition parties want to come together, do not backstab Congress. Congress-mukt Bharat means opposition-mukt country," said Ramesh who is also general secretary in-charge communications at All India Congress Committee (AICC).
"No one can mitigate Congress from the country. Congress is not dead and very much alive. Any Opposition alliance is not possible without Congress," he said here. "When we are talking about opposition unity, without a strong Congress, such unity is not achievable."
Speaking at length about opposition unity and hinting at inviting opposition parties to come together, Ramesh said, "Several parties want opposition unity, but with the intention to oppose Congress. They must understand, if you want to come with Congress, do not weaken Congress or backstab the party."
