Opposition-sponsored Bihar bandh a flop: BJP
The ruling BJP termed as 'flop' today's dawn-to-dusk Bihar bandh called by RJD and supported by almost all opposition parties against yesterday's attack on journalists allegedly by JD(U) MLA, Anant Singh and his henchmen.
State BJP President Radha Mohan Singh told reporters that over 100 incidents of violence against journalists took place during the 15 years of RJD rule, but the government never acted against the perperators.
"Chief Minister Nitish Kumar acted swiftly and ordered arrest of his party MLA and recommended a CBI probe into yesterday's assault on journalists and alleged rape and murder of a woman in which legislator's involvement was suspected," Singh told reporters.
He said since RJD was in power at the Centre and the CBI functioned under prime minister, party president and railway minister Lalu Prasad should use his good offices to ensure that the case was taken up by the CBI.
The BJP leader said the state government should order re-investigation of the old cases of attacks on journalists and ensure their speedy trial.
He alleged that former Resident Editor of The Times of India, Uttam Sengupta was fired upon and its News Editor N R Mohanty was beaten up by a RJD minister in Patna and two journalists were killed at Hazaribagh in undivided Bihar, but no no action was taken.
