Opposition walks out of Lok Sabha over Unnao accident
Members demand home minister’s statement; some MPs protest in front of Gandhi statue.

Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha, Congress floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, it was a “shameful incident” and demanded that adequate security be provided to the victim’s family. “People of India are feeling ashamed today due to the Unnao incident. It’s a blot on civilized society, where a minor girl was gangraped and a truck hit the victim’s car and killed a witness. The victim and her lawyer are in critical condition,” he said.
Parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi responded by saying the state government was doing everything to ensure justice. “CBI inquiry is already underway, FIR has been registered. The government is investigating impartially.”
Minister of state for rural development Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti claimed “the truck belonged to a worker of the Samajwadi Party.” BJP leader Jagdambika Pal too claimed the truck that hit the car — in which the girl, her family members and lawyers were travelling — belonged to a Samajwadi Party leader.
Dissatisfied with the response of the government, Congress, Trinamool, DMK and some others parties walked out of the House.
