Opposition MPs stage a protest at the Parliament premises over the reports of nationwide shortage of LPG cylinders, during the ongoing Budget Session, in New Delhi on Friday.
New Delhi: The Opposition's continued protest over the shortage of LPG cylinders in the country disrupted work in the Lok Sabha in the first half of Friday amid two quick adjournments.

The Opposition members also staged a protest outside Parliament over the issue for the second consecutive day.

As soon as the House commenced at 11 am, opposition parliamentarians rose to protest and the Chair adjourned the House till noon after the appeal for normalcy in the House failed to evoke a positive response.

The same scene replayed when the House reconvened, prompting the Chair to again adjourn the House till 2 pm.

Addressing reporters, Congress parliamentarian KC Venugopal questioned the rationale of the government's stand that there's adequate stock of LPG cylinders and said people are already struggling to procure them.

"In our constituencies, people are also suffering like anything. In the national capital, we can see how people are suffering. This reality is not affecting them (government) because they are living in a different world, not with the common people," Venugopal said. "Common people are suffering only because of this government's attitude."

Senior opposition parliamentarian Tariq Anwar said the government should initiate dialogue with the Opposition and facilitate House debate on the LPG issue.

"The government, instead of confronting us, will have to listen to the Opposition and take the Opposition into confidence. Unfortunately, the government is not prepared to do that," he said.
