Opposition parties are "using" Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev against Congress to gain political mileage, Prithviraj Chavan said today.

NASHIK: Opposition parties are "using" social activist Anna Hazare and yoga guru Baba Ramdev against Congress to gain political mileage, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said today.

Chavan, while addressing the rally of state Congress workers on concluding day in Trimbakeshwar, about 22 kms from hear, said that the recent agitations undertaken by Hazare and Ramdev are nothing new for the 125-year-old Indian National Congress.

Saying that there is no alternative to Congress, Chavan asserted that he had brought transparency in governance and has implemented measures like re-development of slums in Mumbai.

In the background of heart burn between the Congress and NCP over Water Bill, Chavan said that as far as water distribution system is concerned, first priority will be given for drinking purposes, second to agriculture and then for industries.

Meanwhile, state industries minister Narayan Rane said that he had opposed renaming of Marathwada University as B R Ambedkar University at the behest of Bal Thackeray when he was in Shiv Sena.
