Opposition mourns with Pakistan when terror camps are hit: PM Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi countered questions raised by the Opposition in Parliament about Operation Sindoor and its aftermath, saying some leaders get depressed whenever the handlers of terrorists in Pakistan are mourning their defeat. He also underlined that India is on its way to becoming the third largest economy in the world, in an apparent attempt to dismiss the "dead economy" remarks of US President Donald Trump which was endorsed by Rahul Gandhi.

The prime minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for a slew of development projects worth over Rs 22,200 Crore in his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi on Saturday. He also gave away the 20th instalment of PM-Kisan worth Rs 20,500 Cr to over 9.7 Cr farmers.

Addressing a rally in the city, Modi invoked Lord Shiva, saying his name signifies welfare but also embodies the fierce Rudra form when confronted with terror and injustice.


"During Operation Sindoor, the world saw this aspect of Bharat. Those who attack India will not be spared, even in the nether world. But unfortunately, even with the success of Operation Sindoor, some people have a pain in their stomach. They are not able to digest that Indian forces destroyed the terror camps in Pakistan. Do you feel pride in Operation Sindoor, in the destruction of terror bases?" he asked the crowd. Without naming Opposition leaders, Modi said one leader had raised questions about the timing of the encounters of those involved in the Pahalgam terror attack and those raising queries about Operation Sindoor

On the state of the Indian economy, the prime minister said: "India is on the path to becoming the world's third-largest economy. Therefore, there is a need for India to remain vigilant about its economic interests.... The welfare of farmers and small industries is paramount, and the government is making every possible effort in this direction," he said.
