BJP ally JDU on Monday demanded that the Modi government initiate steps for conducting a caste-based census without further delay.
Members of the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, belonging to the Congress and like-minded opposition parties, have decided to hold a joint demonstration in the vicinity of Parliament House on Tuesday to demand withdrawal of the suspension of their 12 Upper House colleagues. They have also sought permission to hold a dharna at the Jantar Mantar on Wednesday.

After the proposed demonstration, the leaders of these parties may also hold a joint press conference, said some opposition MPs who were part of the opposition floor leaders' meeting which decided on the plan.

JDU seeks caste census

BJP ally JDU on Monday demanded that the Modi government initiate steps for conducting a caste-based census without further delay. JDU MP Kaushalendra Kumar asked the government to form a committee to initiate proceedings of caste census by ensuring correct data collection.
