PUDUCHERRY: The Opposition Congress today called for a CBI probe into the "scandalous practices" of the ruling AINRC government in reportedly issuing fake residence and nativity certificates to candidates from Tamil Nadu, enabling them to get seats in medical colleges under government quota here.

Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister V Narayanasamy has alleged that 35 candidates from Tamil Nadu had submitted fake certificates and gained admission to medical colleges, a release said here.

The Congress has written a detailed letter to the CBI, seeking an immediate probe into the scandal, it said.

The leader also charged the government with encouraging corrupt practices in procuring rice for the free rice scheme and also offering promotions to government staff in the civic bodies.
