Opposition boycotts health minister in Assam

Opposition AGP has decided to boycott all the programmes of health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The party has decided to boycott the minister both in the Assembly and outside Assembly.

GUWAHATI: Opposition party Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has decided to boycott all the programmes of health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The party has decided to boycott the minister both in the Assembly and outside Assembly.

The entire opposition including AGP, BJP, and Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF) staged a walkout in the state Assembly in protest against a comment of Mr Sarma made in a programme of local television channel on Monday.

Leader of opposition Chandra Mohan Patwory alleged that the words uttered by the minister were un-parliamentary. "We will move the Election Commission demanding action against the minister for uttering such words against a recognized political party."

Mr Sarma maintained in that he was provoked while the AGP demanded unconditional apology from the minister.
