The opposition in Bihar boycotted the assembly proceedings on Wednesday, the penultimate day of the monsoon session in order to press the demand for a discussion on the Agnipath scheme.

Tejashwi Yadav, the opposition leader, made the announcement of boycott on Tuesday. He also refused to buy the Chair's contention that the matter fell outside the state's purview.

However, the showers since morning literally poured cold water on the opposition MLAs' plans to protest right in front of the imposing assembly building.

Tarkishor Prasad, the deputy chief minister, and Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, the minister for parliamentary affairs, expressed lamented about the absence of opposition MLAs and suggested that they should be asked to return to the house.

The pre-lunch session was conducted in the absence of the whole opposition, including the RJD and its Left allies in addition to the Congress and the AIMIM, despite the fact that none of the protesting MLAs showed there.
