Opposition accuse government of forcing out Raghuram Rajan
NEW DELHI: Opposition parties continued to criticise the Modi government for “forced exit” of RBI governor Raghuram Rajan, saying some comments made by senior BJP leaders and ministers were “insulting to a person of eminence as Rajan”.

Congress leader Anand Sharma said Rajan’s “expertise and wisdom are widely acknowledged”, adding: “It is most unfortunate and unacceptable the manner in which the ruling establishment and BJP chose to treat him (Rajan). Anyway, our loss will be the gain of academia.”

BJD’s Bhartruhari Mahtab said: “It is most unfortunate that this country is unable to have the continuing service of Dr Rajan whether he has been forced out or humiliated.” JD(U)’s KC Tyagi said the manner in which Rajan was “made to leave” was the “latest instance of RSS and Swadeshi Jagran Manch dictating” the policy matters.
