Onus on Centre to take decision on Telangana issue: TDP

The TDP on Friday said that the onus was on the Central government to take a decision on the contentious Telangana statehood demand.

HYDERABAD: The TDP on Friday said that the onus was on the Central government to take a decision on the contentious Telangana statehood demand.

"It is the responsibility of the Central government to take a decision as it alone has the authority. It can't push the blame on TDP or other parties," party chief N Chandrababu Naidu said here.

Naidu was reacting to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram's statement that the TDP too should come out with a clear stand on the statehood issue.

"We passed a resolution in our party's annual general meeting in May clearly spelling out our stand on Telangana. It is for the Centre alone to take a call...it alone has the authority and the responsibility. The onus is on the Centre. We can't be blamed. The Centre should take a decision in tune with the people's wishes and aspirations," he added.

Referring to the comments by leaders of his party from different regions of Andhra Pradesh on the statehood demand, the TDP chief said: "What I speak alone should be construed as the party's official stand. What others say is their personal view."
