Only bullet train project under review: Uddhav Thackeray

MUMBAI: Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray has dismissed speculation that the 5-hour meeting he had with officials on Tuesday was to cancel projects sanctioned by the previous government. “The meeting was to speed up work.

We also looked at prioritising projects and including new ones,” he told journalists in Mumbai after the meeting. The bullet train project was the only one under review though his government had not taken a decision to cancel it, he said.

In another development, NCP leader Dhananjay Munde has asked Thackeray to withdraw cases against Bhima Koregaon riots accused and ‘give justice’ to those arrested. Several activists like Sudha Bharadwaj and others are in jail after the Pune police alleged they were planning to engineer riots and create anarchy.


When asked about the issue, Thackeray said that the previous government had asked police to withdraw cases after a review and his government had done the same. Officials, however, clarified Thackeray meant review of cases against those accused of caste riots in Koregaon and not activists arrested after the riots.

Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation MD Ashwini Bhide, executing the Metro 3 project, and other senior bureaucrats attended the meeting chaired by Thackeray.
