NEW DELHI: The number of Jeevan centres -- the one-stop shops for various welfare schemes -- will go up from existing 100 to 1,000.

Delhi government Officials said the number of Jeevan centres is being increased to ensure hassle-free delivery of services to the citizens and bring down the number of footfalls in government offices.

From facilitating payment of electricity and water bills to submission of application for various government schemes, Jeevan Centres offer a host of services to citizens.

Meanwhile a meeting of Delhi Cabinet, presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, today gave its nod for further improving services of Jeevan Centres.

The Cabinet has given the go-ahead for appointing a private vendor to further streamline the services. The contract with the previous vendor had come to an end almost a year back.

The Cabinet has also given its nod for conservation and refurbishment of a monument -- Azimganj Sarai -- in the premises of Zoological Park.
