NEW DELHI: Only one religious centre that did not belong to the Christian community was attacked in Delhi in 2015, while thefts were reported in 20 other such institutions till March 15, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

Minister of State for Home Haribhai Chaudhary also said that 239 incidents of theft in religious centres other than that of the Christian community were reported in the national capital in 2014.

Replying to another question, Chaudhary said there are 240 churches in Delhi and all officers concerned, specially DCPs and SHOs, have been directed to take care of security of these worship places.

"All churches have been identified and assessed for their security arrangements. The churches have been depicted on a map for a holistic view. PCR vans, ERVs and motorcycles patrol have been deployed around the churches for enhanced security. At all vulnerable locations, static deployment is made during night hours," he said in a written reply.

The Minister said directors and management of these institutions have been requested to install CCTV cameras and deploy guards for the safety and security of these places.

At present, 161 churches have installed CCTV cameras. 54 churches have got installed CCTV cameras on the insistence of police, he said.
