One gets angry visiting poor in UP: Rahul hits back at Maya

Replying to repeated attacks by Mayawati on him, he said, "it is only when you do so that you realise the extent of their misery".

PHULPUR: Hitting back at UP Chief Minister Mayawati for asking him to vent his anger against the Centre, Rahul Gandhi today said one gets angry when visiting homes of the poor in the state.

"You feel angry if you visit the homes of the poor. The anger that Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati may have once felt is now dead because they are cut off from the people," he said addressing a Congress party rally in Phulpur Lok Sabha constituency, once represented by Jawaharlal Nehru.

"People from UP are much sought after in other states like Maharashtra and Punjab for their hard work. But, ironically, their own state is languishing in abject poverty", he said.

Gandhi was responding to Mayawati's attack on him on Saturday when she asked why "the yuvraj of Congress" does not get angry when the people of UP and Bihar says harassment in Congress-ruled states and Dalits get uprooted in Mirchpur village in Haryana.

Replying to repeated attacks by Mayawati on him for his visits to the homes of the poor, he said, "it is only when you do so that you realise the extent of their misery".
