One dead, several injured as police fire at protesters in Tripura

GUWAHATI: A youth was killed and several others were injured in police firing, clashes in Tripura.

Police had to fire on agitating mob following protestors going berserk during the shutdown. The shutdown is called to oppose the government's decision to rehabilitate thousands of refugees.

A senior police officer, who do not want to be named told ET, "Agitators pelted stone and blocked National Highway 8 in Panisagar town. "


Protest is taking place against rehabilitation of Bru refugees. Huge contingent of security forces are rushed to the area.

The area is witnessing shutdown against government's decision to rehabilitate around 35,000 tribal Bru refugees from Mizoram back to Tripura.
