In the last few months, the BJP has stepped up its efforts to reach out to tribals before the upcoming assembly elections. Nominating Draupadi Murmu as the presidential candidate has given a boost to the party's efforts in reaching out to them.

The BJP has planned to celebrate Draupadi Murmu's election victory in areas of states which have a high population of tribals.

They have planned to put up posters and organise celebrations highlighting the fact that someone from the tribal community is going to occupy the highest constitutional post of the country for the first time and this has been made possible under a BJP government. Posters have come up in several states thanking PM Modi for nominating Murmu as the presidential candidate.

BJP joint general secretary Shiv Prakash was in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on Sunday to hold a meeting of party leaders. During the meeting Shiv Prakash specifically instructed the party's tribal leaders to ensure celebrations in their areas. The celebration will take place from July 21, when the presidential election results would be announced till July 25, when the new president will take oath.

BJP in-charge of Madhya Pradesh, Murlidhar Rao has instructed party leaders in the state to focus on the celebrations in tribal-dominated areas. "BJP is a path breaking party. Given the opportunities we have always ensured that the idea of inclusion should become a meaningful contribution especially for those communities which have so far been kept away," Rao told ET. "The decision to nominate Murmu has definitely helped in establishing and consolidating the trust among the tribals."

BJP ST Morcha president Samir Oraon told ET that this is an opportunity for everyone to celebrate, not only tribals. "We have appealed to people of all communities to come forward and take part in the celebration as it is the celebration of democratic values of the country," Oraon told ET.
