OMC mining case: order on Rajgopal's bail plea on November 29

The case involves Obulapuram Mining Company, owned by former Karnataka minister, Gali Janardhana Reddy.

HYDERABAD: The special CBI court today reserved its order till November 29 on the bail plea of of V D Rajgopal, former Director (Mines) and the then (in-charge) Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation, in the illegal mining case.

The case involves Obulapuram Mining Company, owned by former Karnataka minister, Gali Janardhana Reddy.

The arguments on bail plea concluded today. CBI, on September 5, arrested Janardhana Reddy and his brother-in-law B V Srinivas Reddy in the case. Subsequently, Rajagopal too was arrested.

All three are in judicial custody. Yesterday, opposing the bail plea, CBI lawyer had alleged Rajgopal abused his official position by stopping deserving applicants from getting mining leases; and helped Janardhana Reddy and Srinivas Reddy to use permits issued by the mining department to justify their "illegal" mining activity.
