Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti likened the clampdown in New Delhi to that of Kashmir in the wake of CJP protests.

"Welcome to the New Delhi, modelled on New Jammu & Kashmir," Abdullah wrote on X.

Former chief minister Mufti said Delhi has become a reminder of Kashmir after the "unconstitutional abrogation of Article 370", when people were locked in their homes, the internet was shut down and an entire region was placed under siege.

"The BJP then brazenly claimed that nobody had protested. Today, with Delhi under siege, trains halted and roads to Jantar Mantar sealed, they may repeat the same lie, claiming that nobody protested against Gyanesh Kumar," Mufti said. "First crush the protest, then deny it ever happened. This is how enforced silence is passed off as consent."

However, some people from Kashmir wrote on social media that drawing parallels between the situation in New Delhi and Kashmir reflects "lack of understanding on Kashmir or simply misinformation".
