Officials on the job to restore power supply in Chennai: Piyush Goyal
NEW DELHI: A central team and officials from transmission utility PowerGrid have reached Chennai and are working to restore full power supply in the flooded city, Power Minister Piyush Goyal today said.

"PowerGrid and other central ministry and PSU officials have reached Chennai to be in control room and in the field. Working to restore full power," Goyal tweeted.

"We stand with the people of Chennai and Tamil Nadu during the Chennai floods. Have directed my officials to provide all possible assistance to the state."

Chennai today turned into a virtual island as several coastal areas of Tamil Nadu remained marooned after heavy rains pounded the city, its suburbs and neighbouring districts, cutting off crucial road and rail links, shutting the airport and rendering thousands homeless.
