A director in the Union home ministry was arrested for allegedly leaking sensitive information, after his office and residential premises were raided on Monday.

NEW DELHI: A director in the Union home ministry was arrested for allegedly leaking sensitive information, after his office and residential premises were raided on Monday.

The special cell of Delhi Police raided the North Block office and residence of Ravi Inder Singh, a 1994 batch IAS officer of West Bengal cadre, working as director in the internal security division.

“The raid has been conducted following allegation that he has been leaking sensitive information out of home ministry...he is charged with corruption as of now,” home secretary Gopala Krishna Pillai told ET.

Mr Singh has been booked under the Official Secrets Act as well as Section 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC.
According to sources, he was passing sensitive information to commercial firms in connection with security clearance.

Mr Ravi Inder Singh was allegedly doing this for monetary consideration.

The officer had been placed under surveillance for about a month.

Mr Singh was part of the sensitive internal security division that grants security clearances to firms in sensitive sectors such as telecom, civil aviation, shipping, and IT. He was also MHA’s interface with Research in Motion, the makers of BlackBerry, during talks to enable Indian agencies to access encrypted messages on BBs.
