Obama says a victory is a must in the war in Afghanistan

Barack Obama says his trip to Afghanistan showed him that the United States needs to send more troops and that the world must ``finish the job'' in defeating the Taliban.

PARIS: Barack Obama says his trip to Afghanistan showed him that the United States needs to send more troops and that the world must ``finish the job'' in defeating the Taliban.

The US presidential candidate says America needs to send at least two additional brigades to Afghanistan, and he urges a greater commitment from NATO allies.

He says it is ``a war we have to win.'' He was speaking at a news conference in Paris on Friday after talks with French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Sarkozy recently pledged to send more troops to Afghanistan, a decision Obama praised as ``courageous.'' Other European allies have been more reluctant.

Obama visited Afghanistan in a grand tour that has taken him to the Middle East and Europe to burnish his foreign policy image.
