Nuke installation, defence sites on radar of terror suspects

A nuclear installation and several defence establishments were on the radar of 11 arrested people having alleged links with Pakistan-based terror groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Jihad-Al-Islami.

NEW DELHI: A nuclear installation and several defence establishments were on the radar of 11 arrested people having alleged links with Pakistan-based terror groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Jihad-Al-Islami (HuJI), sources said here today.

The terror suspects, arrested in Karnataka on Thursday, during interrogation confessed that the module had planned to attack a nuclear installation and vital navy and army establishments located in southern India following directives from their LeT and HuJI handlers based in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, they said.

They also had plan to target MPs, MLAs and journalists in Karnataka. Their interrogation might lead to fresh arrests in Karnataka and elsewhere, the sources said.

A journalist and a scientist were among the 11 people arrested by Karnataka Police which claimed to have foiled their plot to target MPs, MLAs and media persons.

Sources said profile of those arrested was a cause of worry and security establishments were gearing up to face this new challenge of radicalisation.
