Nuke deal to dominate winter session

NEW DELHI: The winter session of Parliament will be held from November 15 to December 7 and the political focus is clearly on a likely debate on the long-pending agenda of the Indo-US civil nuclear deal with the Left raging against the government and the BJP under increasing pressure from US to tone down its opposition to the deal.

The decision to have an early and brief session was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs on Monday in view of many Parliamentarian’ preoccupation with the campaign for the upcoming Assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Dasmunsi, however, said it will be a normal winter session and not a special session to discuss the nuclear deal as was being projected by certain quarters.
