NEW DELHI: The government expects to introduce the Nuclear Safety And Regulatory Authority Bill in the winter session of Parliament, minister of state at prime minister's office V Narayanasamy said on Friday.

India targets a nuclear power capacity of 10,080 mw by 2017 and said safety of the country is the government's foremost concern.

Nuclear Power Corp of India (NPCIL), the only company permitted to produce nuclear energy in the country, targets to set up six new units of nuclear power generators at Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in the next five years, its director technical SA Bhardwaj said.

The company is in talks to rope in joint venture partners for its proposed units in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, Bhardwaj said.

Currently, 20 nuclear reactors in India generate about 4,780-mw power.
