NSUI to potest against Common University Bill, CBCS

NEW DELHI: National Students Union of India (NSUI) today accused the Centre of "imposing" common university bill and choice-based credit system ( CBCS) on students and said it will stage protests until the initiatives were withdrawn.

The CBCS and bill have put administrators, teachers and students of the universities in a state of confusion, NSUI president Roji John said while addressing a press conference here.

He added the issues will also form part of NSUI's agenda for the September 12 Delhi University (DU) polls.

"Government is forcefully implementing CBCS across Delhi and other universities. When it is bringing in such a major change, it should have had consulted everyone in field of education on what will be the mechanism and infrastructure for implementing the system. But it did not," he said.

The NSUI president said the Government's decision has put administration, teachers and students in DU in a state of confusion as none is aware how the programme will be executed.

Students are clueless about courses to choose and what will be the syllabus, he added.

John also expressed concerns over Government "imposing" common universities bill and added that such a policy shall help private universities are number of students flocking there will increase.

"Nowhere in the world have two universities had common syllabus. DU students had earlier successfully fought changes which are not their in interest. If students could force withdrawal of four-year under graduate programme (FYUP) in the past, then CBCS too will meet same fate," he said.

John, accompanied by other office-bearers of the wing, also raised concerns over lack of adequate hostel accommodation for candidates, special bus service to ferry them to and from the DU campus, etc.
