NSA sees more attacks on India in Afghanistan

National Security Adviser M K Naryanan warned that there could be more attacks on Indian assets in Afghanistan.

NEW DELHI: National Security Adviser M K Naryanan warned that there could be more attacks on Indian assets in Afghanistan. The ���terror advisory��� came a day after he blamed Pakistan���s intelligence agency, Inter-Service Intelligence for the suicide attack on its embassy.

The attack by a suicide bomber on July 7 had claimed 58 lives including that of defence attach�� Brigadier R D Mehta, press counsellor V V Rao, two Indo-Tibetan Border Police personnel and a Afghan staff employee. ���

We have no doubt that the ISI is behind this. We are in the favour of the peace process, but the ISI is not in anyway part of it,���Narayananhad said.

NewDelhi has already sent foreign secretary Shiv Shankar Menon to Kabul for taking stock of the situation.
���India is committed to partnership with Afghanistan,��� Mr Menon told journalists soon after reaching Kabul.
India has its largest overseas aid programmeinAfghanistan, amounting to $750 million.

The major projects include construction of a strategic road that will connect land-locked Afghanistan to an Iranian port, and a power transmission line to bring electricity fromUzbekistan. The attack on Indian assists is aimed at forcing India for a rethink on its participation in rehabilitation programmes.

During the visit,MrMenonwill be discussing the results of the investigations into the bomb blasts aswell asways to step up securitymeasures for Indians.

Thereareover3,500Indiannationals in Afghanistan,working on Indian government-sponsored projects as well as those employed by multinational forces. MrMenon���svisithas coincideswith intelligence inputs that point to more attacks, including on Indian consulates. India has four consulates in Afghanistan besides its embassy in Kabul.

Speaking to a television channel on Sunday, Mr Narayanan said: ���We apprehend intensification of attacks���.

The NSA said there could be ���three or four��� attacks on Indian installations. He said India was ���very unhappy at the turn of events���, referring tothealleged involvement of ISI in the car bomb attack.

On the possibility of sending Indian special forces toKabul toprovidesecurity to the Indian missions, he noted:
���Wedonot like tosendIndianforces to countries abroad.��� He, however said the option would be considered bythe ANOTHER WARNING: Narayanan appropriate authorities.
