NSA Ajit Doval back in Srinagar; admin prepares for ‘UNGA effect’
SRINAGAR: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval arrived in Srinagar on Wednesday afternoon to chair a scheduled security review meeting. The visit assumes importance as the administration is preparing to deal with possible repercussion to Pakistan raking up the Kashmir issue at the UN General Assembly. Doval had toured the valley for several days to assess the situation first hand after August 5.

Locals who gather at mosques and funerals have been speculating that UNGA addresses of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistan counterpart on Friday would trigger law and order issues in the valley.

“Let us see what happens on September 27 at UN. We will come to know what both countries have planned for Kashmir and people will react accordingly,” Muhammad Yaqoob, a 60-yearold resident of Srinagar told ET.

“UNGA speeches of Modi and Imran will have direct impact here. People talk about extremes now to get rid of this daily misery and humiliation,” claimed 30-year-old computer engineer, Muhammad Furqan.

After revocation of special status to Jammu and Kashmir and splitting of the state into two Union territories on August 5, partial restrictions and blockade of mobile telephone services continue in several parts of the valley. Those protesting the Centre’s decision have imposed ‘day curfew’ in protest in the valley.
