GUWAHATI: Opposition party, Naga People’s Front (NPF) has suspended its Rajya Sabha member KG Kenye from the party for voting in favour of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Parliament.

NPF has resolved to oppose CAA. Party president Shurhozelie Liezietsu stated that disciplinary action committee (DAC) of NPF thoroughly examined Kenye’s reply to the show-cause notice issued to him on December 26 and recommended to discuss his reply in a bigger forum within the party.

He said, “The house was also not convinced with the explanation rendered by you and arrived at a consensus opinion that you acted in contrary to the said resolution. Hence, the matter was referred back to the DAC and the DAC, after proper application of mind, recommended Suspension of your Membership from the Party".

Kenye earlier claimed that he voted in favour of the CAB because it strengthens the Inner Line Permit.
