Now, Rashtrapati Bhavan faces mosquito menace

The Parliament House have become breeeding grounds for Aedes aegypti, the mosquito that causes dengue.

NEW DELHI: Municipal negligence is not sparing even the high and mighty. The symbol of country’s vibrant democracy, the Parliament House, as well as the residence of the country’s first citizen, Rashtrapati Bhavan, have become breeeding grounds for Aedes aegypti, the mosquito that causes dengue.

The medical department of New Delhi Municipal Corporation has found the larvae breeding at several places in the two high profile addresses. Several engineers responsible for maintenance works and horticulture have been served notices on their negligence.

“Larvae of dengue mosquitoes have been found in places in the Parliament compound like air-conditioners, water tanks and coolers, garden and pots.

Similarly in the case of Rashtrapati Bhavan, we have located several such places,” NDMC medical officer RN Singh said. “We are also doing an enquiry into the lapse in upkeep of Rashtrapati Bhavan with central public works department (CPWD),” he added.
