Now, officers to clear interview for police station incharge

LUCKNOW: In an attempt to deploy the best officers as incharges of police stations in the state capital, those vying for the post will have to clear an interview aimed at testing their competence.

The experiment, which has been initiated here, is being conducted to do away with allegations of "favouritism" and "pick and choose" in the process, a senior official said.

"In the past, there were allegations that the heads of police stations were deployed on the basis of favouritism and political clout was used in the process. To do away with it, an experiment has been initiated to interview policemen on different paramaters on the scale of 10," said Yashasvi Yadav, Senior Superintendent of Police.

Those with maximum marks will be posted to police stations, he said, adding that the sole objective behind this intiative is to get the best officers.

"The first thing being considered in the interview is the work done by the officer. The number of criminal cases he has worked out is also being seen followed by his background," Yadav said.

Another important aspect of the interview are the initiatives taken by the officer towards using latest technologies and selecting 'police mitra' and 'Special Police Officers' among locals to help the force, he said.

"With this transparent procedure, I don't get any calls regarding appointments. The one who is the best will become the incharge of police station," he said.

With the best officers at the helm, this initiative has also helped manage the law and order situation in the state capital, he said.

Lucknow has 43 police stations including one for women.
