Now, carnival shifts to Delhi
Amid indications that the political drama in Goa was far from over, the BJP-led Goa Democratic Alliance moved its flock of 20 MLAs to the national Capital.
They are likely to be paraded once again before President Pratibha Patil, even as the BJP prepared to seek judicial intervention to nullify speaker Pratapsinh Rane’s controversial rulings which allowed the Digambar Kamat to survive the trust vote on Monday.
After meeting Goa governor S C Jamir twice on Monday, the newly-formed GDA, which claims to enjoy the backing of 20 MLAs in the truncated House of 39, moved into the Capital. All members of the GDA shifted base in an attempt to tell the world that they had been denied justice by the partisan speaker.
“The governor has not responded properly. So we are planning to meet either President Pratibha Patil again or approach the Supreme Court. We will meet our senior leaders to decide on strategy,’’ said national BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy, who’s in-charge of the affairs in Goa. Adds state BJP president Shripad Naik, “We might even parade our members again in front of the President. We want justice”.
Amid reports that the Congress high command has been disturbed by the speaker’s `controversial’ conduct, chief minister Digambar Kamat also left for New Delhi to apprise the `high command’ about the turn of events in the state and discuss the next course of action. “The vote of confidence will be discussed, but there are other issues too that we will talk about,” insists Mr Kamat.
