Chennai: Superstar Rajinikanth who was admitted to a hospital in Hyderabad following "severe fluctuations" in his blood pressure and exhaustion on Friday was discharged on Sunday.

The 70-year-old's shoot for the film "Annathe" was cancelled after four members of the crew tested positive for coronavirus. Rajinikanth himself, though, tested negative on Tuesday.

The doctors said his medical reports showed nothing alarmingly wrong but the doctors had advised him complete bed rest for one week, minimal physical activity and avoiding stress and any activity that increases risk of contracting Covid-19.

"His blood pressure has been stabilised and he is feeling much better. In view of his improved medical condition, he is being discharged from the hospital today," the hospital said on Sunday afternoon.

The actor's health concerns come a few days ahead of December 31 when he was set to announce the date that his political party would come into operation.
