Not satisfied with fencing work along Dhubri sector of India-Bangladesh border: Rajnath Singh
GUWAHATI: Union home minister Rajnath Singh said he is dissatisfied with the border fencing work being carried out in the Dhubri sector of India-Bangladesh border.

Singh inspected the border fencing of Karimganj and Dhubri on January 3 and 4 along with the leaders of All Assam Students Union (ASSU).

India and Bangladesh share a nearly 263 km-long border, said Singh. "However, in Dhubri sector of the international border there are several gaps. We are doing a feasibility study and two pilot projects are underway in Dhubri sector of the riverine border," he said.

Singh said, "We are waiting to see the outcome of the pilot project. The Dhubri border will be fenced by 2017 while in Karimganj sector sealing will be possible by 2016. We want a discussion on the Assam accord and have asked the AASU leaders to come and have discussion."

The home minister said the Centre wants a permanent solution to Assam's problems of flood and natural disasters. "We want to talk with the state government as to what can be done for permanent solution."

Singh also said that there is encroachment on tribal lands and blocks. "I am worried…the state government must take steps on this," he said.
