Northern West Bengal has become focus area for all in assembly election
SILIGURI: Northern part of West Bengal has become prime focus area for all the political parties as equation of the region can significantly influence state level fate for both TMC and INC-LF duo, the main warriors in ongoing assembly vote war.

Deprived of major industrialization, agriculture infrastructure development or suffering from of political disturbances including three separate statehood demands, the region hosts a political ambience quite different than rest of the state. That has brought down topmost leaders of all wings including PM Narendra Modi, INC President Sonia Gandhi or CPIM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury to the region to campaign. TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee or other first liners in LF are almost camping here.

Like entire state with 294 constituencies, assembly seat holding wise, TMC is the single largest entity in North Bengal too that hosts 54 seats. But against TMCs total statewide win in 184 seats in 2011, its tally in north Bengal was only 17. But for LF, NB’s contribution remained 16 in its total 62 seats. And for INC, it is 16 out of 42. Gorkha Janamukti Morcha(GJM), with its major strength in hills and foothills had 3 seats.
