North to see continual rainfall over next two weeks

Rainfall is likely to continue in the northern and eastern parts of the country through the next two weeks, according to the Met office.

“Successive passage of western disturbances is very likely across northern India during the next two weeks,” IMD said in a forecast. Western disturbance is a rain-bearing weather system associated with deluge and snowfall in the hills.

The weather system is likely to hit the western Himalayan region on Sunday night and the northern plains the next day. Two more western disturbances in quick succession are likely to follow between February 28 and March 7, IMD said.


Independent weather forecasting agency Skymet on Friday said that cloudy conditions may develop over Delhi-NCR on Monday, with possibility of thundershower and rain until early morning hours of Tuesday. The good spell of rainfall is expected to keep the air quality in the capital under control.

The air quality index in the city touched “satisfactory” levels on Thursday because of high winds induced by a western disturbance affecting the northern region. Rainfall in east and northeast is expected to rise during February 24-27 due to fresh moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal, the weather office said.

The cumulative rainfall is very likely to be above normal over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during the next two weeks, IMD said.
