North eastern states must participate in creation of new storage capacities: Ram Vilas Paswan

Guwahati: Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Ram Vilas Paswan has sought the North eastern states participation in creation of new storage capacities by identifying/offering suitable land for construction of godowns so that the production and Public Distribution System (PDS) operations go smoothly in the North Eastern States.

A review meeting on Food Corporation of India operations, PDS Computerization, procurement and other related matters of North eastern states was held in Imphal.

The review meeting was attended by Food Secretary Ravikant, D. V. Prasad, Chairman cum Managing Director, Food Corporation of India and Food Secretaries of North Eastern States.


In an official communique the Minister requested all the States for their active participation in creation of new storage capacities by identifying/offering suitable land for construction of godowns so that the production and PDS operations go smoothly in the North Eastern States.

Minister also reviewed the position of Storage capacity, its utilization, allocation under National Food Security Act (NFSA) and lifting of foodgrains. He also directed that Depot Online System of FCI should be implemented in the entire North Eastern States.
