Normal life effected due to strike by Hurriyat Conference
Normal life in Srinagar was disrupted today due to the strike called by the Hurriyat Conference to protest the use of force by police against its supporters.
Shops and business establishments in the city remained shut today in response to the strike jointly called by two factions of Hurriyat Conference against the alleged "state terrorism".
Senior separatist leader Shabir Ahmed Shah and several others were injured when police used lathis and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse slogan-shouting demonstrators outside Hazratbal shrine after Friday prayers.
Both the factions of Hurriyat had given a call for "Hazratbal Chalo" to offer special prayers there to "celebrate" the revocation of the Amarnath land transfer order.
Hurriyat leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umer Farooq termed the use of force on Shah and others as "state terrorism" and called for a complete shutdown today.
Kashmir High Court Bar Association has also supported the strike.
"We strongly condemn the attack on peaceful demonstrators," a spokesman of the bar said.
