PALAKKAD (Kerala): Marxist veteran and state opposition leader V S Achuthanandan today joined the bandwagon of leaders who use social media to connect with people.

Taking a cue from his fellow politicians, the 93-year-old leader opened his Facebook page and Twitter account along with a revamped version of his official website to communicate with voters, especially the tech-savvy ones.

The website and the social media accounts were launched at a function inaugurated by CPI-M state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan at the district committee office here.

The website details the personal and political life of the leader and the struggles he has carried out in and outside the state Assembly.

A gallery on the website carries a large collection of pictures of the former chief minister.

Some of his speeches and cartoons on him will be an added attraction for his admirers.

Over 450 people have already begun following VS - as Achuthanandan is popularly being called by his supporters - on Twitter and over 17,000 people have 'liked' his Facebook page.

The veteran leader is contesting Malampuzha constituency here in the May 16 Assembly polls.
